Best 1080p 144Hz Monitor for Gaming [2021 Buyer's Guide]

It’s no longer all about your computer’s or console’s specifications to get the best gaming experience possible. A great gaming monitor is just as critical. The refresh rate is one of the most important features of a successful gaming monitor because the higher it is, the smoother the motion appears. Getting a 1080p 144Hz display will give you gaming smoothness that most 4K gamers won’t be able to afford anytime soon, and you’ll be able to find them for significantly less than many 4K gaming monitors. The combination of 1080p and 144Hz is just what most gamers want.

What should I look for in a 1080p 144Hz gaming monitor?

1- Screen Size:
Screen size is measured diagonally, from corner to corner, by manufacturers. More available screen space and more realistic gaming experiences result from a wider screen size combined with a higher resolution.

2- Screen Resolution:
Any monitor’s resolution is an important function. It calculates the screen’s width and height in pixels, or “picture elements,” which are the tiny points of illumination that make up an image. A screen with a resolution of 2,560 by 1,440 pixels, for example, has a total of 3,686,400 pixels. For standard resolutions, manufacturers may only refer to one measurement: 1080p and 1440p refer to height, while 4K refers to width. Any resolution greater than 1,280×720 pixels is considered high definition (HD).

3- Refresh Rate:
The refresh rate is the rate at which the image on your entire screen is refreshed. Since the screen updates the location of each object more quickly at higher refresh rates, onscreen motion appears smoother. This can make it easier for competitive players in first-person shooters to track moving enemies, or it can simply make the screen feel more sensitive as you scroll down a website or open an app on your tablet. The rate of response is calculated in hertz.

4- Response Time:
In milliseconds, response time tests how long it takes a single pixel to change color. Lower response times mean less visual artefacts behind moving pictures, such as motion blur or “trails”. To keep up with the refresh rate, response times must be quick enough. The time it takes for a pixel to shift from one shade of grey to another is commonly listed by manufacturers as “gray-to-gray” response time.

5- Input Connectors:
A variety of ports can be found behind or under your computer. USB and Thunderbolt ports provide data and power to external devices, while display interfaces link your screen to graphics output from your PC. VGA, DVI, HDMI, Display Port, Peripherals (USB, Thunderbolt 3 Technology), and Headphones are all included.

6- Panel Type:
When it comes to gaming monitors, there are a variety of panel styles to consider. We’ll go through the distinctions between the three most popular gaming monitor panel types: TN, IPS, and VA.

  • Twisted Nematic Film (TN Film).
Liquid crystals twist light as voltage is applied, allowing it to be partially or completely blocked by a later filter.
  • Vertical Alignment (VA).
Rather than twisting as in a TN panel, vertically aligned liquid crystals line up with two polarizers. The crystals can more effectively block light than TN panels while they are at rest.
  • In-Plane Switching (IPS).
Several innovations that rotate liquid crystals parallel to current-carrying electrodes. TN’s viewing angles and colours have been improved.

7- Adaptive Sync:
The dynamic synchronization of a monitor’s vertical refresh rate with the graphics card’s frame rate (GPU). Adaptive sync was created for the video game industry to remove tearing, stuttering, and judder. Today, a gaming display must have a variable and customizable refresh rate in order to be marketed as such.
